During the last 4 years I have provided leadership to engage and support our community through difficult times whilst we continued to work toward a better future for Victor Harbor.
I have actively promoted Victor Harbor and the needs of the community through every possible forum.
I have always been prepared to listen.
The Role of the Mayor is often misunderstood. No Mayor works alone. No Leader works alone.
Together, as a team we have delivered over the last four years.
Together, as a team we can continue to deliver over the next four years.
My Vision:
MOVING INTO OUR FUTURE – LEAVING NO ONE BEHIND.
We have so much opportunity here in Victor Harbor. The last four years has seen the community support each other through fires, floods and through COVID. We have seen council supporting the vulnerable members of the community, our small family businesses, and after many years of stagnation we have seen significant government and private investment in our community. Despite this, I know we still have many people doing it tough and my vision is focused on building a sustainable recovery and investing in the future, leaving no one behind.
I am passionate about our community, our natural environment, and the opportunities that Victor Harbor presents. I am standing for re-election because I am acutely aware we need to continue to protect those things that are unique to our community. We need to build the infrastructure for the families and young people making Victor Harbor their home. We need to support our older, more vulnerable community members so they live independent and fulfilled lives in the place they call home. We need to move into the future together as a council and as a community in a sustainable and measured way.
Victor Harbor is my home. Both my husband I have small business here and are actively involved in the community. I was an active fire fighter with the CFS (Prior to becoming Mayor) and my husband is Captain of Lower Inman CFS Brigade. I am a member of Victor Harbor Rotary, and as Mayor over the last four years, I have been actively supporting many small service clubs and organizations behind the scenes.
Outside of council I am a board member on the Aged Rights Advocacy Services board, protecting the rights of our older and vulnerable population. I am a non-executive Director on the Bendigo Community Bank.
I continue to advocate for the people of Victor Harbor in every forum I can.
Victor Harbor is part of the broader Fleurieu South Coast, and it is important that we continue working with our neighbouring councils to share services, save money, and collaboratively address the needs of our ratepayers when possible. Nobody notices council boundaries except councils. We all need to work together to support our businesses, our residents and plan for future infrastructure that the whole South Coast benefits from.
As Vice President for the Southern Fleurieu and Hills Local Government Association, I am in a position to advocate for Victor Harbor and the South Coast, and have been meeting with State Government Ministers and representatives, advocating for better transport (including public transport), solutions to housing affordability, and addressing homelessness in the South Coast, to name a few. This ongoing advocacy is vital and the relationships that your Mayor builds with regional Mayors, CEOs, State and Federal Governments and regional bodies can make a huge difference in what can be achieved.
